Debbie Oetgen

Debbie is an artist and is internationally known in the field of Microwave Kilns and glass fusing. In 2009 she introduced microwave kilns to New Zealand and opened an online store glaze.co.nz to sell kilns and to facilitate her teaching.  At that stage Debbie's teaching of glass fusing involved inviting small groups to her home on a weekly basis.  The classes lasted a few hours and were held in her kitchen.  In 2011 Debbie was joined by a business partner and the pair began releasing tutorials on YouTube, realizing that that they needed to reach a wider audience.  The free videos gained immediate views and followers.  They are still there to watch today and the collection keeps growing - just search for GlazeGlassJewellery on YouTube.

Debbie has taught thousands of students now worldwide, but no longer has the time to teach physical classes unfortunately.   She spends a lot of time developing new techniques and producing teaching material.  She is very passionate about her art and loves to share anything new she comes up with.  Debbie is also a very active member of many of the Microwave Kiln and Glass Art Facebook groups, and loves to comment about everyone else’s creations and offers advice where appropriate.

Early in 2017 Debbie and her business partner created a new learning program, kraftfun.com.  This is a membership-based learning platform where students enroll for around the cost of a coffee a month!  They can stay as long as they like while paying their subscription and can watch many learning modules and multiple project tutorials using the microwave kiln.  Early in 2019 both the kraftfun platform and the
GlazeGlassJewellery channel in YouTube expanded to include projects such as firing silver clay in the microwave kiln.

Kraftfun expanded in 2019 to include more courses on NewZenlar.

Alongside the Kraftfun platform, Debbie has two Facebook groups which she administers, along with other Facebook pages.  Please feel free to visit and join anytime!  All the links are listed below.

Thank you so much Debbie - you give me so much inspiration!  I did this full course after watching your preview course.  Now I just can't stop making silver leaves.  When I collect up scrap clay and the dust from when I sand I make paste and make another leaf or two! I've even started selling them!
